At Southern Oregon Connection, we’re all about education. We believe that education equals opportunity, and that everyone deserves opportunity. That’s why we first began supporting teachers and learners in 1993, and why we continue to do so. Whether creating materials, designing training courses, providing professional development, or presenting at international conferences, our goal is to do what we can to improve the quality of education worldwide.


Barbara Hoskins Sakamoto Barbara Hoskins Sakamoto, President

Barbara is an author, teacher, and teacher trainer. She has taught English and English as a second or foreign language in the United States and in Japan for over 20 years. Barbara is co-author of one of the world’s best-selling courses for teaching English to young learners — Let’s Go (Oxford University Press). She is also co-author of English For Teachers, a new online course for English teachers who wish to improve their own language skills, for International Teacher Development Institute. Barbara is a frequent presenter at international conferences, and online webinars, and has conducted teacher training workshops throughout Asia, the US, and Latin America.


Richard HoskinsRichard Hoskins, Financial Officer

In addition to keeping our finances in order, Richard is also an educator in his own right, Over the years, he has developed vocational training programs for migrant workers and the chronically unemployed, educated mental health professionals in suicide intervention, and conducted workshops for suicide survivors. A gifted grant writer, Richard has works with educational groups to find financial support for worthy projects.


Laurie Bigham, Homeschool Adviser

Homeschooling is a choice parents make for a variety of reasons. It’s the choice Laurie made for her own children, and after 12 years successfully navigating the waters of alternative education, Laurie is in a position to help other families make the most of this education choice.


Miku Sakamoto, Social Media Coordinator

Miku manages our online presence. She updates content and moderates comments on and, manages our Twitter and Linked In accounts, and updates content on our Facebook Teaching Village Page. She also serves as our event coordinator, managing presentation schedules and travel logistics.

We believe that iTDi provides an opportunity to raise the level of English teaching around the world through its efforts to provide quality teacher training that is both accessible and affordable. We are proud to be investors in the company and supporters of their efforts. In addition, Barbara serves on the Board of Directors, as Program Director for the English for Teachers course, of which she is also co-author.
